MEDICAL STUDENT CLERKSHIPS
Advocate Christ Family Medicine Residency offers
clerkships for third and fourth year medical students. Interested third year students should check
with their medical schools for rotation availability. The following medical schools rotate frequently through the
family practice center:
Outpatient electives are available for third and fourth
year students. Duration of this
rotation will depend on your medical school family medicine requirements,
ranging from four weeks to twelve weeks in length.
The
rotation will include:
§
Patient care with residents and attendings
in the family practice center.
§
Mandatory attendance and participation in the
Wednesday lecture series.
§
Call is optional.
§
Opportunities for school physicals, home and nursing
visits.
§
Occasional morning rounds and lectures at

Fourth year students may participate in an elective or
required sub-internship on our Family Medicine Inpatient service. This is typically a four week rotation with
call.
During
your sub-internship, you will:
§
Become an integral member of the Family Medicine
Service.
§
Provide continuity of care to patients, including
admission history and physical, daily progress notes, communication with family
medicine team and consultants.
§
Call is mandatory, average q4-6 days.
§
Follow a diverse group of patients.
§
Attend mandatory Wednesday lectures at the Family
Practice Clinic. Attend daily morning rounds and scheduled lectures.

PRIMARY CARE SPORTS MEDICINE
The
Primary Care Sports Medicine elective is available to fourth year
students. This is typically a four-week
rotation. This rotation is not recommended during the summer months since
schools are closed.
PURPOSE:
Students will be exposed to a wide range of sports medicine injuries in the
Advocate Christ Family Medicine Center, Midland Orthopedic, Podiatry and
Midwest Orthopedic Consultants, S.C.
COMPETENCIES:
Students will become proficient in the performance of pre-participation sports
examinations, which are patient and sport specific. They will gain a depth of
knowledge in contraindications to certain sports and limitations or
restrictions based on the sports specific history and physical examination for
which the physician must provide guidance and direction for the safety of
athletes with certain conditions.
